History of Southpointe

Southpointe is a new fully developed approximately 600-acre mixed-use park
(office, flex, industrial, retail, and residential) off I-79 at Canonsburg, PA, about
16 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. The park contains 2.2 million square feet of
Class A office space.

Park amenities include:

  • The 18-hole private Southpointe Golf Club
  • A 175-room Hilton Garden Inn and Conference Center
  • The Iceoplex Ice and Soccer Arena
  • The Health Club & Spa at Southpointe
  • Two University Extensions (California and Waynesburg)
  • Canonsburg Hospital’s Health Works, Bradley Physical Therapy
    and other medical services offices
  • A Branch Office of Community Bank
  • Several restaurants, a deli and a bistro
  • Two hair salons
  • A daycare center
  • Apartments, Townhomes, and Single Family Homes

Approximately 160 companies located in Southpointe represent a diverse mix of
businesses from professional services and high tech to light manufacturing. They
include 9 World Headquarters (home offices with branches outside the U.S.) and
19 U.S. corporate headquarters (branch offices in other locations). About 5,000
people currently work in the park and the number is steadily growing. The forecast
for full employment in Southpointe is approximately 7,000 jobs. You can browse

Private investment in Southpointe buildings exceeds $250 million. All buildings
were built between 1993 and 2002 following completion of the I-79 Interchange. A
public investment of $8 million was used to initiate the project and to build sewer,
water, streets, and sidewalks. The Washington County Redevelopment Authority
managed the project.

All Park buildings were constructed and are maintained according to strict
deed covenants. The common areas are maintained by deed mandated user fees
and are managed by the Southpointe Property Owners Association.

CEO’s within the Park formed the Southpointe CEO Association as a forum where
business peers can come together to share their knowledge, interests and

Coming Soon-- Southpointe II:
The 600 acre Southpointe parcel was formerly a portion of Western Center State Hospital.
It was sold to Washington County in 1996. The remaining 225 acres of Western Center
is scheduled for development by the Washington County Authority in the near future.
