On December 1st, the Southpointe CEO Association hosted a luncheon for it's members and guests with co-sponsors TruWin, Inc., Scalo Case Development Group, and Horizon Properties.
The presentation to the standing-room only CEO group gave attendees a first-hand look at the Master Plan for 221 acres of Southpointe II, which will be modeled on the success of Southpointe I. In his presentation, Senator Barry Stout called our mixed-use community a prime example of what can be accomplished when government and the private sectors work closely together. He noted that Washington County purchased Southpointe II last year from the State for $2 million - a substantial reduction from the "asking price" of $9.5 million. Government funding to prepare Southpointe II for construction is estimated at $10-$12 million and private investment is expected to rival the investment in Southpointe I. Bill Sember, Executive Director for Washington Development Association and Mike Swisher of Horizon Properties walked the group through a virtual video tour of the Master Plan. The first phase of Southpointe II includes the demolition of 13 existing buildings to make way for the 12 new commercial buildings and a hotel. Demolition is expected to begin in the second half of 2005, but necessary remediation of asbestos in the old buildings will push back the expected date for the first groundbreaking into 2006. The plans also include a "town square" with shops, cafes with outdoor seating, and a movie theater. "Parking fields" will be placed behind the buildings, creating a tree-lined pedestrian mall. A cultural and educational district, 250 single and multi-family residences, senior housing and an outdoor amphitheater complete the picture. To view more pictures from this event
